Korean Crypto Exchange Upbit Suffers $50 Million ETH Hot Wallet Hack

Upbit, South Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchange by market-share and trading, has been hacked. At the moment, all trading activities, deposits, and withdrawals are temporarily suspended. On Nov. 27, Lee Seok-woo, the CEO of Dunamoo, the company that operates Upbit, confirmed in an official statement that 342,000 ETH was transferred from Upbit’s hot (online) wallet to an unknown wallet. Bitcoin Loses $9K Support As Markets React To S. Korea Investigation

Bitcoin prices fell to three-week lows of around $8,540 on May 11, as markets reacted to a flash investigation of South Korean exchange Upbit and a fresh Mt.Gox funds liquidation. Data from Cointelegraph’s price tracker and Coin360 shows BTC/USD dipping sharply over the past 24 hours, with major altcoin assets posting considerably higher losses of up to 18 percent. Bittrex Will Remove 82 Tokens Due to Lack of Liquidity

Bittrex, one of the largest cryptocurrency exchanges which also powers UpBit, South Korea’s second biggest exchange operated by Kakao subsidiary Dunamoo, has stated that it will remove 82 tokens from its trading platform. “Occasionally, there are circumstances that lead Bittrex to remove a coin’s wallet or market from the Bittrex Exchange,” said the Bittrex team. “We will be removing the wallets included in the list below on March 30, 2018. Once these wallets are removed, we will no longer be able to recover these coins.
