Since our last crypto market round-up report on Friday, the climate has changed significantly for at least one major cryptocurrency: Ethereum. All eyes are on Ether as it pushes closer and closer to the $100 mark. Bitcoin, meanwhile, briefly crossed the threshold of $3,400. By most accounts, the Bitcoin price is working on a test of the $3,000 mark, which is both a psychological and market indicator. Bitcoin & Ethereum Grind Upwards as Crypto Market Crosses $120 Billion

Tuesday afternoon saw Bitcoin, Ethereum, and Bitcoin Cash post minor against against the backdrop of a tepid crypto market recovery. Bitcoin SV continues to teeter on the brink of being the only major Bitcoin variant to not rank among the top 10 cryptocurrencies by market capitalization, closing out the period with a less than 0.5% gain. Ethereum Hard Fork Rescheduled: Here’s When Constantinople Will Finally Launch

One of these problems is a significant group of miners continuing to mine as if the hard fork had actually taken place. Another problem is how to proceed with the upgrade intended to produce lower transaction fees, among other improvements. After a developer meeting Friday, Ethereum has decided to postpone the Constantinople upgrade and to disinclude the source of the “reentrancy bug,” that is, all code changes related to EIP-1283. Ethereum Postponed its Hard Fork, But Some Miners Didn’t Listen

On January 15, Ethereum’s developers put out a security alert that they were postponing the scheduled Constantinople upgrade. Not everyone made the appropriate changes, however, and there is a currently a parallel universe of Ethereum mining. A “chain split” has occurred, and some miners are mining the unofficial Constantinople chain without consensus from the majority of the network. Gauging Community Expectations and Developer Readiness as Ethereum’s Constantinople Launch Date Approaches

The next attempt to implement the Ethereum (ETH) hard fork is expected to come in the interval from Jan. 14 to Jan. 18 — or according to Afri Schoedon, the release manager for the Parity Ethereum client, Jan. 16. At that point, the 7,080,000 block will be extracted, and the Constantinople upgrade will be activated.
